Sunshine as a liqueur
Limoncello is made from the indestructible lemons of the Amalfi Coast and Sorrento. The peels are macerated in alcohol, blended with sugar water, then served ice-cold – translucent yellow like the sun over the Gulf of Naples.
Although the centre of limoncello culture lies in Campania, recipes exist from all regions. The dispute over whether it comes from Capri, Amalfi or Sorrento remains undecided – and the liqueur in a small chilled carafe remains the friendly diplomat.
